Supplies Required for Course

Fabrics for a wall hanging or child’s quilt:

Focus fabric – 1 yard. This must be a large scale print. Suggested fabrics include florals, juvenile prints, landscape prints, Asian designs, or seasonals such as Christmas.

Companion fabrics: minimum of ½ yard each of three other fabrics. At least one should blend with the focus fabric, and one should contrast.

Borders and binding – 1 yard
Narrow inner border – Ό yard (not fat quarter)

Supplies:

Book 9-Patch Pizzazz by Judy Sisneros

Rotary cutter, rulers (especially 12 ½” square) and mat
Sewing machine with Ό” foot

Basic sewing supplies

Thread to blend with fabrics
Design wall (This can be a flannel backed plastic tablecloth, or piece of flannel or fleece about 3’x5’ that can be pinned to the quilts hanging on the wall. Or bring a foamcore board or presentation board or large piece of cardboard covered with flannel.)

Cutting: (optional)

If you want to do some cutting before class, first trim the selvage edge from your focus fabric. Fussy cut two 12 ½” squares carefully, so as not to cut into the adjacent fabric! Then cut three strips 2 ½” x 42” for nine patches. From the remainder of your fabric, fussy cut two 6½”x12 ½” rectangles (vertical and/or horizontal), and four 6 ½” squares. You may need to cut more of the small squares later.

From each of the companion fabrics, cut three strips 2 ½”x 42”. From the blending companion fabrics only, cut a total of four 6 ½” squares. If one of your companion fabrics reads as a solid, it will be used only in the nine patches.

Bring all of your remaining fabrics to class.
